Take That Art And…Frame It!

Choosing a frame for art is not always as easy as it seems it should be. Many decisions go into framing and need to be thought through before deciding on the frame. The right frame should enhance and complement a piece of art but not distract from it. Here are some tips so anyone can go ahead and just frame it!

Take a good look at the piece to be framed and decide not only the feel of the art, but also where it will go once it is framed. Will it go in a child’s room? If so, the frame can be bright and fun. Will it find its place in one of the living spaces of the home? When that is the case, a more formal frame may be the better choice.

Try to tie the frame into the style of the art as well. A good frame for an old photo may have an antique look to it, while a more contemporary piece should have a more modern frame.

Make sure the frame accentuates the art, but does not become overbearing. While an oversized frame can make a strong statement, be sure it does not dominate the work inside. Sometimes, less can be more.

A frame should meld into the work, elevating its aesthetics and becoming part of the work. Whether it is a photo, poster or anything else, the right frame will be the perfect partner.
